The preservation Process

The complete preservation process can take months, from start to finish. Each piece is unique and will require its own love and attention in order to create a truely beautiful and one of a kind design for you.

Below are details for each of the phases your florals will move through whilst here at River Creations.

Process Phase

Once your blooms have arrived here at the River Creations Studio, they will be carefully laid in a bed of silica crystals and sealed in a waterproof container.

It is important to note that I can only preserve your blooms in the condition in which they arrive. Please see ‘Shipping Instructions’ to ensure your florals arrive safely and in their best possible condition.

Drying Phase

Your blooms will be stored in the silica for 2-4 weeks, whilst the silica draws any and all moisture from them. This process preserves their beauty in all shapes and forms

  • Please note that some flower types change colour throughout this phase. Pinks, purples and reds can darken. Whilst white flowers can brown, yellow and in some cases, exhibit a pink or even green hue. This is a natural process and will be discussed in the early phases of placing your order.

Removal Phase

Once your blooms have finished drying, and your desired moulds have become available, they will be gently removed from the silica and dusted clean. They are very fragile at this stage, so they will be handled with the greatest of care.

Design Phase

Your florals will now progress through to the design phase, where I will set them in their moulds for their resin preservation.

Apon request, I can offer design approvals for some orders. However, responses will need to be prompt as your florals will be at risk of moisture damage.

  • Please note that whilst the studio is temperature and humidity controlled, moisture can still affect dried flowers. This is an unavoidable consequence of Queenslands tropical climate.

Preservation Phase

Once your design has been created, I will begin the preservation phase. Resin is an everlasting medium. Therefore, once this phase has begun, there is no changing the design.

This is a lengthy phase, as only one 1cm layer of resin can be poured each day. This is to avoid shrickage or distortion in the resin, and most importantly, from burning your precious florals. Your piece is far to treasured to be rushed through this phase.

Demoulding Phase

Once your piece is completely covered in crystal clear resin and is hard to the touch, it will be demoulded and set aside for 1 week to completely cure.

Finishing phase

Once your piece has fully cured, it will be sanded back and prepped for the heavy duty top coat, to ensure the beauty and longevity of your piece. Preparation usually takes 1-3 days, depending on the volume of orders. Once top coated, your piece will then be set aside to completely cure for an additional 1-2 weeks.

Shipping phase

Your timeless keepsakes are finally complete. Horray! Your order will be carefully packaged in sustainable packing material and shipped out to your address. You will be provided with a tracking number to keep up to date with its movement. Once it has arrived your patience will be awarded with a beautiful keepsake you can cherish for many years to come!
